Retinal Imaging
Modern technology means that we can use a special retinal imaging system to take images of the inside of your eyes, allowing us to see any abnormalities very easily. Many eye diseases show no obvious visual symptoms until damage has already started. Early detection is the key retaining as much vision as possible.
During your eye examination the optometrist examines your eyes with a bright light to look for any problems. By taking a retinal image we are able to see most of the inside of your eye at once and much more clearly. This helps us to identify any problems and gives a clear indication of the health of your eyes that we can refer to in the future to compare how your eyes have changed over time
The process doesn’t hurt at all, there is a bright flash of light as the photograph is taken and it appears on a computer screen.
Eye Drops
You may need to have drops in your eyes to enlarge your pupils if necessary. Your vision will become temporarily blurred and sensitive to bright light, due to this you would not be safe to drive for at least 4-6 hours after the appointment.
